An Illinois man is in custody after shooting a woman in a fit of jealousy, court records allege.

Khalil A. Parker, of Dolton, was charged Wednesday with attempted murder, aggravated battery, criminal confinement, intimidation, two counts of domestic battery and one count of pointing a firearm.

His bail is set at $12,000 cash surety. A court date has not been set.

Parker confronted a Merrillville woman April 17 after seeing that an ex-boyfriend wished her a happy birthday on Instagram two years before, according to an affidavit.

The victim told police she took a break from work to lie down next to Parker, before the things escalated. Parker started to throw things at her and broke her bathroom mirror. He knocked her computer over. He threw pots and pans at her.

She picked up the mess. He then appeared with a gun and her phone.

Call the other man, “or I am going to shoot you,” he said, according to court records.

The woman screamed for him not to kill her.

Parker punched her in the head, spat on her and accused her of cheating. He threw a wine bottle at her back. The woman tried to hide behind a sofa. Parker allegedly shot her as she crouched down.

Do you want me to kill myself for him, Parker asked her, according to the affidavit.

She called 911 when he left momentarily to hide the gun. When he returned, he told the 911 dispatcher she shot herself. Parker’s story was “inconsistent” and “nonsensical,” according to police.

He claimed she started a fight and shot herself when he went to the bathroom.

“Matter of fact I am tweaking,” he told officers. “I messed my story up.”

Parker said he hid the gun behind her car radio. Investigators found it there.

The woman was shot twice near the right knee and twice in her right foot, according to court records.
