Golden Pal, the speedster who keeps on giving, for Wesley Ward in the Turf Sprint. One race later, Ortiz will complete his trifecta with the Bob Baffert-trained Laurel River in the Dirt Mile.

A few other predictions for a great two days of racing that offer plenty of value and great betting opportunities. Just don’t blow all your bankroll on the first few races, and take it easy on the mimosas. The card gets more interesting as the day grows longer:

• Ortiz will win five races Saturday, adding the Mile (Annapolis at 10-1) and Distaff (Nest) to his monster day. Ortiz has won 14 Breeders’ Cup races, tied with Frankie Dettori for fourth all-time, but it says here he’ll be moving up the ladder this year.

• After being blanked in 2021, Baffert will win two Breeders’ Cup races this weekend, drawing within one of D. Wayne Lukas’ record 20. Cave Rock will hold off all challengers and win today’s Juvenile to go with Laurel River’s victory the following day. Baffert’s National Treasure will give the Hall of Fame conditioner a 1-2 finish in the Juvenile and Taiba will come up big in the Classic, but not big enough to shock Flightline.

• Four heavy favorites will find the winner’s circle, including Flightline, Cave Rock, Golden Pal and Jackie’s Warrior. Doesn’t matter what kind of fractions you throw at Cave Rock, he just keeps going. We’re going to find out just how good he is today. Can Jackie’s Warrior atone for his sixth-place finish in last year’s Sprint as the 1-2 favorite at Del Mar? Joel Rosario thinks so, opting to ride the 4-year-old son of Maclean’s Music for the umpteenth time.

• Looking for a medium-sized longshot for your exotics? You could do worse than the John Gosden-trained Mishriff, who goes into the Turf off a 13th-place finish, beaten by 18 lengths, in the Arc de Triomphe. Why would one of the world’s best trainers send Mishriff to the U.S. if he didn’t think he had a shot after such a dismal outing? He’s not sending him to Keeneland for the plane ride, and he’s 6-1 on the morning line. Include him on your tickets.

• Last year we correctly tabbed Life Is Good as the most impressive winner of the two-day extravaganza, and we’re not going to try to get fancy this time around. How about setting the over-unders on Flightline’s winning margin in the Classic at eight lengths? It says here he beats that margin and puts on a show that the fans won’t soon forget. Twenty years from now, 100,000 will claim to have been at Keeneland to witness the show.

• Classic prediction: Flightline, Taiba and Epicenter. As talented as Life Is Good is, I see him succumbing in the stretch and finishing fourth. Just like last year, when Medina Spirit and Essential Quality were battling for top 3-year-old male in the Classic, the 2-3 finishers this year will be doing the same.

• Keeneland will stage one heck of a show these next two days and be in line to host its fourth Breeders’ Cup in 2026. The weather forecast for Lexington, Kentucky is clear skies with the temperature around 77 degrees today and plenty of wind and 75 degrees on Saturday.
