Aptos High’s Brady Bliesner took seventh and teammate Sam Hansen was eighth at the fifth annual Jackie Henderson Memorial Cross Country Invitational at North Monterey County High on Saturday..

Bliesner finished in 15:17, and Hansen followed in 15:21.

Los Gatos’ Aydon Stefanoppoulos won in 14:29.

Aptos’ Vincent Sandford-Carro (15:26) took 12th.

St. Ignatius (100) and Los Gatos (100) tied for the boys’ team title. Aptos (138) took sixth and Monte Vista Christian School (331) took 10th.

MVC’s Kylie Brunelli took sixth out of 100 runners in the girls’ race in 18:05.

Los Gatos’ Shea Elmore took first in 17:32.

Santa Cruz’s Heidi Green took ninth in 18:10.

Santa Cruz’s Isla Roak (18:12; 11th), Scotts Valley’s Ava Decleve (18:35; 17th), Aptos’ Maya Schiro (18:45; 18th), San Lorenzo Valley’s Ruby Evans (19:41; 27th) and MVC’s Finley Castro (19:50) posted top-30 finishes.

Saint Francis (31) of Mountain View won the girls’ team title. Santa Cruz (187) took fourth and SLV (192) was fifth.

Boys water polo

Scott Roche Invitational >> Soquel went 2-2 and finished 13th at the Scott Roche Invitational at Menlo School in Atherton over the weekend.

The Knights lost 8-7 in overtime to Rio Americano and 12-8 to Ripon on Friday, and beat Burlingame 20-4 and Menlo-Atherton 15-5 on Saturday.

Senior goalie Jacob Henshaw made 31 saves over the four games.

Senior Cash Wolf totaled 14 goals, six assists, and eight steals for the Knights. Junior Stryder Stelck had 11 goals, eight assists, and seven steals. Senior Noah Piona and junior Tanner Connors each scored six goals, and sophomore Sam Robertson made 10 steals.

Soquel (2-2) hosts the Steve Martin Memorial tournament on Friday and Saturday.

Men’s soccer

At West Valley 3, Cabrillo 1 >> Yoan Ponio scored in the fourth minute for the Seahawks, but the Vikings scored three unanswered goals over the final 86 minutes to secure the cross conference win Saturday.

Devin Rosas, Harnoor Sidhu, and Erik Moreno scored for West Valley (1-1-0).

The chippy contest featured four yellow cards for unsafe/unsportsmanlike play, including three against the Vikings.

Goalie Carlos Bajaras made two saves for the Seahawks (0-1-1), and Aria Afshar made five saves for the Vikings.

Cabrillo plays at American River (2-1-1) in Sacramento on Friday at 6 p.m.

Women’s volleyball

UC Santa Cruz drops pair >> UCSC dropped a pair of matches to Southern California foes on Saturday, It was swept by Chapman, 25-15, 25-18, 25-17, and lost in five sets to Whittier, 22-25, 25-23, 23-25, 25-12, 15-12.

Margo Melgoza had 11 assists, four digs, and two aces in the loss to the Panthers (5-2).

Ashley Magley had 16 kills against the Poets (6-1). Michaela Augustine made 23 assists, and Anna Hospodar had 15 digs.

UCSC (4-4) plays at Occidental (2-3) in Los Angeles on Wednesday at 5 p.m.
