Caitlin Clark is going to wait until Indianapolis hosts the WNBA All-Star weekend in July to enter her first 3-point contest as a pro.

The Fever star declined an invitation to participate in a special challenge during NBA All-Star weekend next month.

There had been discussions for Clark to participate in a contest similar to the one that pitted Stephen Curry against Sabrina Ionescu in a 3-point shootout during last season’s NBA All-Star weekend. Curry beat the New York Liberty star. It was one of the highlights of the weekend.

There have been discussions around expanding that shootout this year when the NBA All-Star Game takes place in the Bay Area in two weeks.

Hawks’ Johnson out for season >> Atlanta forward Jalen Johnson plans to have shoulder surgery and miss the remainder of the season, a major blow to the struggling Hawks ‘ efforts to remain in the Eastern Conference playoff race.

Johnson has missed three consecutive games, including Tuesday night’s 100-96 loss to Houston that extended Atlanta’s losing streak to six games, their longest of the season.

The Hawks (22-25) are ninth in the East as they prepare to play at Cleveland on Thursday.

Lakers’ Davis out with Abdominal strain >> Los Angeles Lakers forward Anthony Davis strained his abdomen and will be re-evaluated in about a week.

Davis’ injury occurred during the first quarter of the Lakers’ 118-104 loss at Philadelphia. The five-time all-NBA performer walked to the locker room with his right hand over his stomach when he left with 2:10 to go in the first quarter.

CHAMPIONS LEAGUE >> Manchester City flirted with a disastrous exit from the Champions League before rallying to beat Club Brugge 3-1 in a must-win game and advanced to the knockout phase.

Man City trailed 1-0 at halftime, and sat 26th in the 36-team standings, before the 2023 title-winner was sparked by substitute Savinho to avoid elimination. City finished 22nd.

Paris Saint-Germain also secured its place in the top-24 teams and will enter the knockout playoffs rounds, winning 4-1 at Stuttgart to eliminate the German club.

NWSL MVP Chawinga signs extension with Kansas City >> The Kansas City Current have signed National Women’s Soccer League Most Valuable Player Temwa Chawinga to a three-year contract extension.

Last season, her first with the team, Chawinga led the league with an NWSL single-season record of 20 goals. She also won the league’s Golden Boot.

The 26-year-old set records with an eight-game scoring streak and became the first player to score against all the league’s other teams in a single season since the NWSL expanded to 10 teams.

Baseball

Giants trade Rogers to Reds >> The Cincinnati Reds acquired left-handed reliever Taylor Rogers and cash from the San Francisco Giants on Wednesday for minor league pitcher Braxton Roxby.

The 34-year-old Rogers went 1-4 with a 2.40 ERA in 64 appearances for the Giants last season. He struck out 64 and walked 22 in 60 innings.

He is 28-34 with a 3.34 ERA and 83 saves in his career.

Rays sign Kim >> The Tampa Bay Rays and free agent Ha-Seong Kim have agreed to a two-year contract valued at $29 million.

Kim, who played his first four seasons in the majors with the San Diego Padres and won a Gold Glove in 2023, will be paid $13 million this year. He also could earn $2 million in performance bonuses — $10,000 per plate appearance starting at 326 through 525.

WNBA

Vandersloot returns to team that drafted her >> Free agent guard Courtney Vandersloot is headed back to Chicago.

The veteran guard will sign with the team that drafted her in 2011 after spending the last two seasons in New York, agent Lindsay Kagawa Colas said. WNBA free agents can’t sign contracts until Feb. 1.

Vandersloot is Chicago’s all-time assist leader and is second in WNBA history behind Sue Bird.
