Douglas Leroy Bentz finished his fight with progressive supranuclear palsy on 21 November 2024. Born and raised in Chico, Doug was the eldest of 6 children. From dirt bike racing in his younger days to tractor pulls, t-ball games, and 4-H as his children grew, Doug lived a full life. He was always willing to lend a hand whether it was putting up chairs for meetings or fixing an engine.

He started a 36 year career at Butte College teaching agriculture and served as dean of technical and vocational education when he retired.

Teaching, administrating, and serving on many committees, Doug touched countless people in his professional career.

His many accomplishments include presiding over several clubs and organizations, starting the Vintage Iron antique tractor club in Durham (along with Jerry Miguel), donating over 20 gallons of blood, restoring several antique tractors, and building a Cobra kit car; but he was most proud of his relationship with his wife, his children and grandchildren. His legacy of kindness, service, and faith will live on in their lives.

He is survived by his beloved wife Lauralee, their two children Janelle (Troy) and Matthew (Tori), and their adorable grandchildren.

A celebration of life will be held on 15 February 2025 at 2pm at Patrick Ranch. Please come with stories to tell.

In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to the Levi Bentz scholarship fund through the Butte College foundation in Doug’s honor.
