Former Marin Catholic coach Jake Spain has been hired as the new girls volleyball coach for Archbishop Mitty, the school announced on social media on Monday.

Spain, who coached at MC from 2012-21, is also the co-director of Absolute Volleyball Club in San Rafael. MC reeled off five consecutive MCAL titles from 2016 through 2021.

Spain’s tenure at MC was highlighted by the team’s appearance in the State Open Division Championship in 2019. That team featured future Division I talents in Kari Geissberger, Leah Wilton-LaBoy, Grace Oliva, Olivia Cooper, and Bella McGirr

“We are thrilled to welcome Jake and his wife Brianna to our community. In addition to his proven track record, it is his ability to cultivate relationships with his student-athletes that really stands out,” Mitty athletic director Brian Eagleson said in a statement. “He possesses so many of the qualities which align with our mission: intentionality, integrity, and a belief that competition teaches lessons that transcend the court. We can’t wait to get him on campus to work with our players.”

Mitty made it to the State Open Division title game last season, losing in the final. Mitty, the No. 5 seed, took down No. 4 Marin Catholic 3-0 in the first round of the NorCal playoffs.
