BALTIMORE >> Tarik Skubal pitched seven shutout innings, Parker Meadows hit a three-run homer and the Detroit Tigers beat the Baltimore Orioles 4-1 Thursday night.

Dillon Dingler also homered for the Tigers, who rebounded from a 10-1 defeat on Wednesday night to win the deciding matchup of the three-game series.

Showing the form that enabled him to unanimously win the 2024 AL Cy Young Award, Skubal (7-2) allowed three hits and permitted just one runner past second base. The lefty struck out six, walked two and lowered his ERA to a sparkling 1.99.

American League-leading Detroit scored all its runs in the fourth inning against Dean Kremer (5-7). Dingler hit a drive to center that cleared the wall and the glove of Colton Cowser, who was shaken up from colliding with the barrier.

The next two batters singled before Meadows hit his first homer of the season, a drive deep into the right-field seats.

Kremer was originally slated to start, but interim manager Tony Mansolino opted instead to use Keegan Akin as an opener. Kremer entered in the second and gave up four runs and five hits in seven innings.

Baltimore’s lone run came on an eighth-inning homer by Dylan Carlson off reliever Tommy Kahnle.

Will Vest pitched the ninth for his 12th save.

Mets 4, Nationals 3 >> Kodai Senga threw 5 2/3 scoreless innings before leaving with a hamstring strain in New York’s win over Washington that completed a three-game sweep.

Senga (7-3) allowed one hit and one walk before getting hurt while making a leaping grab of Pete Alonso’s high throw on C.J. Abrams’ grounder between first and second. Senga touched the bag with his right foot on the way down but stumbled upon landing and reached for the back of his right leg. He hopped a couple of steps before tumbling to the ground.

After being surrounded by a trainer, his interpreter, manager Carlos Mendoza and teammates, Senga walked off the field under his own power. He lowered his major league-leading ERA to 1.47, but will be placed on the injured list.

Rangers 16, Twins 3 >> Josh Smith, Jake Burger and Wyatt Langford went deep in the first two innings and Texas hit a season-high six home runs in a romp over Minnesota.

Evan Carter, Adolis Garcia and Sam Haggerty also homered as Texas scored 16 runs for the second time in three games. The Rangers beat Minnesota 16-4 on Tuesday night.

Patrick Corbin (4-5) allowed three runs in five-plus innings for his first victory since May 14, retiring 12 straight hitters at one point. He hasn’t allowed more than three earned runs in his dozen starts this season.

Brewers 6, Cardinals 0 >> Jacob Misiorowski pitched five no-hit innings before leaving his major league debut with cramping in his right calf and quadriceps as Milwaukee defeated St. Louis.

Misiorowski (1-0) slipped on the front part of the mound after throwing his third pitch of the sixth. After medical staff went to check on him, he was removed in favor of Nick Mears.

The 6-foot-7 right-hander finished his dominant debut with five strikeouts and four walks while reaching a maximum velocity of 102.2 mph with his fastball.

Cubs 3, Pirates 2 >> Pete Crow-Armstrong hit a two-run home run in the fourth inning, Seiya Suzuki added a solo shot in the sixth, and Chicago held on for a win over Pittsburgh.

Cubs pitcher Jameson Taillon (7-3) went 6 1/3 innings against his former team, which drafted him No. 2 overall in 2010. He allowed two earned runs on four hits, three of which came in the seventh inning, and struck out seven batters.

Ryan Pressly pitched the ninth for his fifth save.

Yankees 1, Royals 0 >> Pablo Reyes stumbled, stopped and still scrambled home safely on a wild play in the eighth inning, taking advantage of a throwing error by reliever Lucas Erceg to give New York a victory over Kansas City.

New York completed a three-game sweep to finish 6-0 against the Royals this season after eliminating them 3-1 in their best-of-five playoff series last October.

Will Warren and four relievers combined on a five-hitter as the AL East-leading Yankees (42-25) moved a season-high 17 games over .500. They have the best road record in the majors at 21-13.

Astros 4, White Sox 3 >> Isaac Paredes hit a solo homer and Jose Altuve doubled twice and had two RBIs to lead Houston over Chicago.

Houston led 4-2 entering the ninth before Mike Tauchman homered to right field off closer Josh Hader to get Chicago within 4-3. There were two outs when Miguel Vargas narrowly missed a homer on a double off the wall in left field.

But Hader struck out Austin Slater to improve to 18 of 18 on save opportunities this season.
