Raymond (Ray) Frederick Schoenfeld was born in LaCrosse, Wisconsin on September 11, 1939 to Walter and Ethel Schoenfeld. He died December 27, 2022 at his home in Longmont, Colorado with his wife Carolyn for over 60 years, by his side. He suffered a traumatic brain injury on August 9, 2022 and though he tried his best to recover, sadly, he continued to deteriorate. He was the best beloved and devoted husband and father. He was preceded in death by his father Walter in 1973, and his mother Ethel in 1989.

He is survived by his high school sweetheart Carolyn (Henthorn) Schoenfeld, daughter Karin, son Alan, daughter-in-law Erica and his 3 grandchildren, Molly, Finn and Mara.

He also leaves behind his brother Richard and sister Maryanne Thompson, both of whom reside in Illinois.

Ray attended the University of Wisconsin and earned his Bachelor degree in both Psychology and Sociology. He proceeded to the University of Montana to earn his Master's Degree in Psychology and Sociology. He relocated to Boulder, CO and started working for Neodata (The Neilson Company) after graduation, where he successfully streamlined magazine fulfillments for several large clients. He was offered an incredible opportunity to open a branch office in Ireland, and was blessed to be able to travel the world with his wife over the next several years. Then in 1977, Ray decided to change direction and he and his wife opened the first franchise for a local Boulder business - Don's Cheese and Sausage (a deli with house made sausage, potato salad, cole slaw and German beans) in Fort Collins, CO.

In 1981 he was given the opportunity to purchase the business from the current owner, who wanted to retire.

Ray's keen business sense and his ability to look at the big picture enabled him to expand the sausage side of the business into numerous grocery stores along the front range. He also expanded it to various mountain towns, military bases, and concession stands in Boulder. Sadly, he lost the business in 1989, following illness and unscrupulous dealings by his former friend and partner. Ray returned to the business world in the late 1990's, assisting several health supplement companies in fixing their manufacturing issues. A few years later, he started a health supplement company with friends, who callously forced him out due to their greed. He then started working for Pollard Jeep, running cars, doing paper work and other odd jobs to help a dear friend, Jimmy Pollard, who owned the dealership.

When Jimmy Pollard retired in 2017, Ray went on to help another local dealership, Prestige Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, Ram in Longmont.

He greatly enjoyed spending time with his wife, who remained his best friend over their many years together. He also dearly loved being with his two kids and three grandkids. He lavished affection on his family, and they were a constant special reminder of how blessed he and Carolyn were in their life together.

Ray is remembered by friends and family as an honest, fair, and esteemed business man.

Many people called him a 'benevolent dictator,' who would listen attentively to them, and many went on to implement his suggestions in both work and their lives with great success. Ray will forever be remembered with love by his family and friends.
