Joseph Aloysius McGhee was born in Rutherglen, Scotland on March 26, 1937, just prior to the outbreak of WWII. He died on February 7, 2025 in Walnut Creek, California. He was the second of four sons born to Matthew and Selina McGhee and is survived by his brothers, Matthew and Thomas. Joe is also survived by his loving wife of 60 yrs, Margaret and their children: Claire Ferguson, Maureen McGhee, Anne Marie Bisson, and Michael McGhee. Joseph was preceded in death by his elder brother, John, his beloved son Gerald, his precious granddaughter Georgia Anne Bisson, and dear nephew David McGhee.
Joe was trained as a jet engine specialist by Rolls Royce Aeronautics in East Kilbride, Scotland. Subsequent to his training, he emigrated toCalifornia and was employed byAmerican Airlines, followed bymany years of service at United Airlines in San Bruno, Ca.
Joe was drafted into the United States Army in 1960 and spent two years in training at Fort Ord, Monterey and Fort Lewis, Washington, but was quickly posted to Germany along with several thousand GI’s in Operation Sword thrust. After his tour of duty in Germany he returned to raise his children in the Bay Area & completed his career with United Airlines.
Joe was a regular parishioner of Christ The King Catholic Church in Pleasant Hill, Ca. Joe was a family man, a devoted husband, father, and grandfather of five. He was a gentle and friendly man with an indomitable sense of humor and great faith in God. He will be missed by many.
