


Russell Westbrook set the NBA record with his 182nd triple-double, surpassing the mark set by Oscar Robertson in 1974.
The 32-year-old Westbrook, in his 13th season overall and his first with the Wizards, reached the milestone when he grabbed his 10th rebound with 8:29 left in Monday night’s 125-124 road loss to the Hawks.
Westbrook finished the game with 28 points, 21 assists and 13 rebounds.
The former MVP and a nine-time All-Star praised Robertson when he tied the record Saturday.
“I take a lot of pride in doing everything I can to impact winning,” Westbrook said. “To be in a conversation with Oscar, I just want to thank him because he set the stage. The things he was able to do back in the day has allowed me to do the things that I do today. So I’m appreciative of that, and I’m appreciative of his support as well.”
Westbrook has a league-leading 36 triple-doubles this season. He had 42 in 2016-17 when he became the first player since Robertson in 1961-62 to average a triple-double.
Celtics All-Star guard Jaylen Brown will miss the rest of the season after being diagnosed with a torn ligament in his left wrist. Brown averaged a career-high 24.7 points on 48.4% shooting this season for the Celtics. He had missed the last three games with a sprained ankle after a collision with teammate Jayson Tatum late in a loss the Trail Blazers on May 2. Brown will undergo surgery next week. ... LeBron James was a full participant in practice and likely will return to the Lakers lineup for Tuesday’s game against the Knicks, according to reports. James missed six weeks due to a high right ankle sprain before a two-game return against the Raptors and Kings. He then missed the next four games. ... G Bradley Beal sat out the Wizards’ game against the Hawks and will miss Wednesday’s game, also against the Hawks. Beal, the league’s second-leading scorer at 31.4 ppg, suffered a left hamstring strain in an OT win over the Pacers. He scored 50 points in the game. The Wizards said Beal will be re-evaluated Friday.
Golf: Top-ranked Dustin Johnson withdrew from the upcoming PGA Tour’s Byron Nelson because of discomfort in his knee, one week before the second major of the year, the PGA Championship. Johnson, 36, had arthroscopic surgery on his left knee to repair cartilage damage after the 2019 season, keeping him out for three months.
NFL: The Colts and two-time Pro Bowl LT Eric Fisher agreed to a one-year, $9.4 million, ESPN reported. Fisher played the first eight seasons of his career with the Chiefs before being released in March. He suffered a torn Achilles in the AFC title game last season, so his playing status for next season remains unclear.
NHL: The league eased some of its COVID-19 health and safety protocols over the weekend for clubs that have been fully vaccinated, but Canadian teams won’t see any significant changes because of the slower vaccine rollout in the country.
Soccer: Juventus will be kicked out of Serie A if it doesn’t withdraw from the European Super League, Italian federation president Gabriele Gravina announced. Juventus remains the lone holdout in Italy. ... The Champions League final between English Premier League clubs Manchester City and Chelsea on May 29 will be staged in either London or Lisbon, according to reports. The UEFA identified the two cities as alternative venues to Istanbul due to the worsening COVID-19 situation in the Turkish city.
WNBA: Aces G/F Angel McCoughtry will miss the upcoming season after tearing the ACL and meniscus in her right knee during a preseason game Saturday. McCoughtry, 34, averaged 14.4 points and 5.1 rebounds last season in helping the Aces reach the league finals.
