


The pace of homicides so far this year in Chicago’s south and southwest suburbs is well down from a year prior, according to records.
Through Thursday, there were eight homicides reported locally by authorities including police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office, tracked by the Daily Southtown.
For the same period last year, reports showed 22 homicides in the south and southwest suburbs, including four members of a Tinley Park family shot and killed in January 2024.
So far this year, homicides have been reported in Crestwood, Glenwood, Harvey, Hazel Crest and Markham, according to the medical examiner’s office.
The most recent homicides were reported in Dolton and Chicago Heights, according to the medical examiner’s office.
In a March 22 shooting in Dolton, 33-year-old Londell Marsh, of the 3500 block of 164th Street, Hammond, was shot multiple times in the 700 block of East 142nd Street.
He was pronounced dead at the scene at 2:10 p.m., the coroner’s office said ruling his death a homicide.
In Chicago Heights, 25-year-old Donte Jennings, of the 500 block of Minette Lane in Chicago Heights, was shot multiple times March 17 in the 500 block of West 15th Street, according to the medical examiner’s office.
Jennings was pronounced dead at 9 p.m. that day at Stroger Hospital in Chicago, and his death was ruled a homicide, according to the office.
Police did not provide more information about the two recent homicides.
