Gary Police are investigating an early morning shooting Friday.

Police spokesman Cmdr. Sam Roberts said in a release Friday that officers at around 7:22 a.m. spoke to a 26-year-old Portage man at Methodist Hospital’s Northlake campus after he’d been shot. The man said he was walking near a gas station in the 2700 block of W. 5th Avenue when he heard multiple gunshots near him, Roberts said.

The victim said he started running toward his home when he realized he’d been shot in the right leg, so he called a relative to take him the hospital, Roberts said.

Sgt. J. Gates, 219-881-1209, is investigating.

Then a Lake Station man got arrested for having meth on him during a traffic stop, Roberts said. Gary Narcotics Officers on Jan. 11 charged Edward Jamson Diviney 63, with possession of methamphetamine, a Level 6 felony, after he was arrested while driving in the 1500 block of Jackson Street and not using his turn signals.

If convicted, Diviney faces up to 2 1/2 years in prison, Roberts said.

Additionally, Aaron Cameron, 64, faces decades in prison after Gary Narcotics Officers and Gary SWAT raided his home in the 500 block of Taney Street following a narcotics investigation.

The Lake County Prosecutor’s Drug Division charged Cameron, of Gary, with one Level 2 felony count of dealing in a narcotic drug, two Level 4 felony counts of dealing in a narcotic drug and one Level 6 felony count of possession of cocaine.

If convicted of the Level 2 felony, Cameron could face up to 30 years in prison.

Anyone who would like to report any narcotics activity should call 219-886-0503.

Gary Police are also looking for a woman who shot a man in the city’s Miller section because she said he owed her money.

Officers at around 7:25 p.m. on Jan. 10 responded to a shooting-victim call at Methodist Hospital’s Northlake campus, Roberts said. The victim, a 37-year-old Gary man, told them he was at a gas station in the 400 block of S. Grand Avenue when a woman he knows confronted him and demanded money she claimed he owes her, he said.

When the man refused to give her money, she pushed him in the face, then pulled a gun from her coat and started shooting, Roberts said.

The victim had a relative bring him to the hospital; the woman fled in a red or maroon Chevy Malibu, Roberts said. Anyone with information regarding this shooting is asked to contact 219-881-1210.
