Mary Devere Danzig passedawaypeacefully on October 6, 2024, at her treasured home of57years in Oakland, California. She was cherished by family and friends for her joyful personality, humor, imagination and generosity.
Mary’s love of family, music, flowers, fashion and felines broughther abundant happiness.
Mary led an active and compassionate life. She cared about children and wasasubstitute teacherat the Orinda Preschool for 20 years; played tennis and golf with a competitive spirit; and most of all loved singing, dancing and preparing gourmet meals.
Mary was adored by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who knew heras“Go-Go.” They never missed an opportunity to hang out with her, listen toher animated storytelling or join her for lunch, movies and other adventures.
Born on October 30, 1929, in Berkeley, California, Mary was the youngest child of Clinton and Mary Jetmore. She was predeceased by her twin brothers Clinton and Clifford. After graduating from Castlemont High School in Oakland, she worked in fashion at Joseph Magnin. In 1950 she met the love ofher life, Paul, on a blind date.
Throughout their 64-year marriage, they enjoyed traveling, golfing, dancing and family vacations.
Mary is survived by her son Daniel (Dianne) Danzig, their sons Chris (Kar) Danzig and Peter Danzig; her daughter Abbey (Stan) Massie, their daughters Lauren Massie and Kalyan (Tommy) Grant, with great-grandchildren Summer &Tommy Jr. Grant; and her stepson Jay (Linda) Danzig, daughter Lisa Christensen, with great-grandchildren Ali Wunderman (Michael), Monica Wunderman (Ben) and Riley Christensen.
Mary’s family is grateful for the loving kindness, during her final years, of her caregivers Vea Fenau, Maria Padilla and Medy Yangco.
