Strong thunderstorms, some possibly severe, are likely to develop along a warm front through central Illinois Wednesday afternoon into the overnight hours. A low pressure impulse is expected to ripple east along the frontal boundary, triggering thunderstorms with severe storms accompanied by damaging winds and large hail. Heavy, localized, flood-producing downpours will work their way north to the Interstate 80 corridor. Strong storms could develop farther north as the evening progresses.
Storms will weaken later at night, with remnant scattered showers likely here Thursday before noon.The showers and isolated thunderstorms will work their way south and east Thursday afternoon. Moderating temperatures are likely under fair skies as the weekend ahead unfolds.
