College basketball: Kentucky guard Brad Calipari said on his Twitter account that he will transfer to Detroit Mercy. The 6-foot son of Wildcats coach John Calipari will have two seasons of eligibility remaining and can play immediately as a graduate transfer. NBA: All-Star guard Klay Thompson said on social media he is staying put with the Warriors, using a clip of Leonardo DiCaprio in the movie “The Wolf of Wall Street” with the line “I’m not leavin!” Thompson is expected to sign a five-year max contract for $190 million when the NBA free agent moratorium period ends. ... A person with knowledge of the situation said the Heat have agreed to trade Hassan Whiteside to the Trail Blazers for Meyers Leonard and Moe Harkless.

NHL: Artemi Panarin is heading to the Big Apple, Matt Duchene to Music City and goalie Sergei Bobrovsky to South Beach as the expected breakup of the Blue Jackets’ core became a reality. Add in veterans Corey Perry and Joe Pavelski signing with the Stars, and provincial rivals Toronto and Ottawa completing a multiplayer trade and there was plenty of buzz to open the NHL’s free agency signing period. And once many of the big-name players were off the board, the Canadiens made the bold move of tendering an offer sheet to Hurricanes restricted free agent Sebastian Aho. The move leaves Carolina seven days to match the Canadiens’ five-year, $42.27 million offer or elect to receive Montreal’s first-, second- and third-round picks as compensation. It is the first offer sheet in the NHL since 2013, when the Flames tried to acquire then-Avalanche center Ryan O’Reilly, only to have Colorado match. Panarin proved to be Monday’s biggest prize by signing a seven-year contract with the Rangers worth $81.5 million. Meanwhile, the Maple Leafs acquired defenseman Cody Ceci, a 2020 third-round pick and two minor leaguers from the Senators for defenseman Nikita Zaitsev, forward Connor Brown and a minor leaguer. In another trade, the Maple Leafs acquired defenseman Tyson Barrie, forward Alex Kerfoot and a sixth-round pick in the 2020 draft from the Avalanche for forward Nazem Kadri, defenseman Calle Rosen and a third-round selection in 2020.
