ERIE/BROOMFIELD

Petition in Coyote Trails drilling denied but cities can still participate

Erie and Broomfield’s petition to testify as an affected party in a hearing for oil drilling in the area was denied, but towns can still participate according to the Attorney General’s Office.

The office upheld Extraction Oil and Gas’ motion to deny Erie and Broomfield’s “affected person” status in a hearing to discuss oil drilling at Coyote Trails. However, Erie and Broomfield can still participate in the hearing.

Erie and Broomfield will hold a larger platform than just public comment during the hearing. Both towns will have more time to present their status on the oil drillings and be able to submit documents. The Colorado Energy & Carbon Management Commission expressed a need to hear from both towns as “participating parties,” according to Erie Communication and Community Engagement Director Gabi Rae. She said the Attorney General’s office stated that the towns did not have the legal standing to be considered “affect persons” for the hearing, but did not comment on the commission’s desire to give Erie and Broomfield a larger platform than just public comment.

Residents can submit their comments about oil drilling at Coyote Trails at tinyurl.com/CoyoteTrailComment.

The hearing has not yet been scheduled. More information is available at erieco.gov/129/Oil-Gas-Operations.

Louisville City Council fails to meet quorum, Redtail Ridge discussion moved to February

The Tuesday Louisville City Council meeting was shortened as a number of members were absent.

On the agenda was a discussion of a proposed plan for the Redtail Ridge area. Councilmember Dietrich Hoefner excused himself from voting on the resolution, Councilmember Judi Kern and Mayor pro tem Caleb Dickinson were absent and there’s still a Ward 1 vacancy, so the Council did not have a quorum.

At the recommendation of city staff, the Council unanimously voted to discuss the Redtail Bridge preliminary subdivision plat at the Feb. 6 meeting.
