WOODLAND HILLS - Wayne Northrop, a soap opera mainstay of the 1980s and ‘90s who also appeared in the prime-time soap “Dynasty,” has died at the age of 77, it was reported Sunday.
Northrop died Friday at the Motion Picture and Television Woodland Hills Home, six years after being diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease, his publicist Cynthia Snyder told The Hollywood Reporter.
“He took his last breath in the arms of his family,” said actress Lynn Herring, Northrop’s wife, according to THR. “We wish to thank the most caring and amazing place, The Motion Picture and Television Home for taking such great care of him. Wayne touched so many people with his sense of humor and wit. A husband for 43 years, the best dad ever to his two boys, Hank and Grady, and a rancher who loved his cows and was a friend to many.”
Northrop played Roman Brady on “Days of Our Lives” from 1981-84 and again from 1991-94. He briefly played another character on the show, Dr. Alex North, in 2005. He also acted on the ABC soap opera “Port Charles” from 1997 to 1998.
Part of the original cast of ABC’s smash “Dynasty,” Northrop played chauffer Michael Culhane in the 1987 pilot episode and later in 1986-87.
Northrop was born in Sumner, Washington, and graduated from the University of Washington before moving to Las Angeles to pursue an acting career.
He also appeared on the TV shows “Hotel,” “L.A. Law” and “Cold Case,” among others.
