



After all the excitement and drama of the CIF Southern Section baseball and softball championships over the weekend, there is still one more week before the season is finished.
The CIF State Southern California Regional baseball and softball playoffs begin this week with the first round today, second round on Thursday and championships on Saturday.
The lower seeds in each round will be the home teams through Saturday’s finals.
The Glendora and San Dimas baseball teams will compete in the Division II regional playoffs.
Glendora, which beat San Dimas 2-0 on Saturday at Cal State Fullerton to win the CIF-SS Division 3 title for the school’s first championship since 2010, will be on the road today at 4 p.m.
Glendora (23-10) was awarded the fifth seed and will travel to Chula Vista to take on fourth-seeded Eastlake (20-10-1), which advanced to the CIF San Diego Section’s Open Division semifinals.
San Dimas (19-11), the No. 7 seed, has graduation today so its first-round game in Santa Maria against No. 2 seed St. Joseph (14-7) has been moved to Wednesday at 4 p.m.
St. Joseph lost to Centennial in the CIF Central Section Division 1 championship game.
No. 3 Pioneer (17-14) will host No. 6 Mountain View (15-13) in the first round of the Division V regional playoffs at La Serna High School today at 4 p.m.
Both teams hope to bounce back after tough losses in the CIF-SS finals.
Mountain View blew a 2-0 lead Saturday by allowing three runs in the sixth inning to fall to Nuview Bridge, 3-2, in the CIF-SS Division 9 title game at Cal State Fullerton.
Pioneer blew a 6-0 lead, losing 7-6 in eight innings to Fillmore in the Division 8 championship game at Blair Field in Long Beach.
Ganesha, which won the CIF-SS Division 4 title with an 8-2 win over Dos Pueblos, and Marshall, which lost to Estancia 4-3 in the CIF-SS Division 6 final, both opted not to participate in the regional playoffs.
RIO HONDO PREP AT HOME
The Rio Hondo Prep (20-6) softball team gets a chance to rebound from its 4-1 loss to University in the CIF-SS Division 6 championship in the CIF Southern California Regional softball playoffs.
Rio Hondo Prep was awarded the fourth seed in Division IV and will host fifth-seeded Taft (9-11) today at 4 p.m.
Taft beat Marquez 8-3 to win the CIF LA City Division II championship.
