Man, 19, charged with vehicular homicide after U.S. 85 crash

A 19-year-old faces multiple charges including vehicular homicide and failure to remain at the scene after a fiery weekend crash north of metro Denver that left a person dead.

Brighton police on Tuesday announced that they’re holding Christian Pasillas, who was booked into the Adams County Jail after receiving treatment in a hospital. The identity of the victim hasn’t been released.

The crash before dawn Saturday likely involved alcohol and excessive speed, police investigators said in a news release.

A BMW sedan moving south on U.S. 85 near the intersection with East 144th Avenue crashed into the back of a Jeep Cherokee, police said. Both vehicles caught fire. The driver of the BMW fled from the burning wreckage on foot. Police shut down the highway. Adams County Sheriff deputies with dogs found Pasillas about a mile from the crash, police said.

18-wheeler crash closed highway for several hours

Colorado Department of Transportation officials announced on Twitter at 10:46 a.m. that lanes were reopened between Colorado Mills Parkway, Exit 263, and 32nd Avenue, Exit 264.
