A fireworks show in Chico scheduled Friday for Independence Day has been canceled after the explosion Tuesday evening at a fireworks warehouse in Esparto left seven people missing as of 3 p.m. Wednesday.

The Silver Dollar Speedway announced Wednesday afternoon that the Fourth of July event racing and fireworks show scheduled on Friday has been canceled. Event planners SLC Promotions stated the cancellation of the event was the necessary thing to do, including its car shows.

Oroville fireworks show at the Table Mountain Golf Course will still continue as planned, according to Amber Miland of the Oroville Chamber of Commerce. She said reports about the show being canceled was false.

In Chico, other Independence Day events will also continue including the Chico Running Club Run Like A Hero 5k event, scheduled 8 a.m. at Sycamore Field; and the Second Annual Fourth of July Parade scheduled 9 a.m in downtown Chico.

In Paradise, the Paradise Symphony will hold two performances 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. at the Paradise Performing Arts Center, 777 Nunnely Road. And along Skyway, 1,100 flags will be displayed 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.
