The New England Patriots have hired former Las Vegas Raiders and Denver Broncos head coach Josh McDaniels as their new offensive coordinator — his third stint in that role with the team, but his first since the departure of longtime mentor Bill Belichick.

The Patriots, who named Mike Vrabel as coach this month, also hired Terrell Williams, who spent six years on Vrabel’s staff in Tennessee, as defensive coordinator and retained current New England special teams coordinator Jeremy Springer.

Jaguars GM Trent Baalke is out>> The Jacksonville Jaguars might not be done pursuing Tampa Bay offensive coordinator Liam Coen.

Jaguars owner Shad Khan fired GMTrent Baalke on Wednesday, hours after Coen backed out of a scheduled in-person interview.

The franchise framed it as the owner and the GM agreeing to “respectfully separate, effective immediately.”

Khan reportedly grew frustrated when Coen, a 39-year-old, up-and-coming play-caller who had an impressive initial interview with the Jaguars, backed out of the second meeting and agreed to a new contract with the Buccaneers.

Al Golden returning to Bengals as defensive coordinator>> Zac Taylor and the Cincinnati Bengals will have a familiar face as their next defensive coordinator.

Al Golden agreed to return to Cincinnati on Wednesday after three seasons as Notre Dame’s defensive coordinator, a person with knowledge of the decision said.

Raiders hire Bucs assistant GM Spytek>> The Las Vegas Raiders hired Tampa Bay Buccaneers assistant general manager John Spytek to be their GM, a person with knowledge of the situation said.

Spytek, 44, replaces Tom Telesco, who was fired after just one year along with coach Antonio Pierce.

Raiders minority owner Tom Brady, who finished his career with the Bucs, is believed to have had a hand in the hiring. He and Spytek were teammates at Michigan.
