The Miami Dolphins activated Odell Beckham Jr. from the physically unable to perform list Saturday, clearing the way for the veteran receiver to make his season debut today at New England.

Beckham signed a one-year contract with the Dolphins in May but missed the first four games of the season after having what he described as a “small cleanup” in his knee in the offseason.

He said going on the PUP list wasn’t what he wanted, but he ultimately made the best decision for the team.

“For me it was a selfless act,” Beckham said, “because if I’m not on the PUP list, I’m taking up a roster spot, which means I’m taking someone else’s job and I’m not doing anything. It’s not really a good feeling to have.”

He practiced for the first time Thursday, hoping to get into game shape to help spark Miami’s struggling offense.

The Dolphins are averaging 11.3 points per game, the worst mark in the NFL, with 187.3 yards passing per game and 97.8 yards rushing. Four different quarterbacks have taken snaps for them because of injuries.

The Dolphins also re-signed QB Tim Boyle to the practice squad Saturday and elevated him, along with cornerback Nik Needham, to the active roster.

Packers suspend WR Doubs >> The Packers suspended wide receiver Romeo Doubs for today’s game with the Rams for what they described as conduct detrimental to the team.

Doubs didn’t practice Thursday or Friday, the Packers saying at the time he was dealing with a personal matter.

“His decisions and actions during the week negatively impacted the team and required us to take this action,” GM Brian Gutekunst said Saturday. “While we are certainly disappointed, we are confident that we will be able to move forward in a positive manner. Romeo is a valuable member of our team and we look forward to welcoming him back next week.”

Doubs has 12 catches for 169 yards and no touchdowns through Green Bay’s first four games this season after he had 59 receptions for 674 yards and eight touchdowns last year.

Cowboys WR Cooks sidelined >> The Cowboys placed Brandin Cooks on injured reserve with a knee issue, sidelining their No. 2 receiver for at least four games.

Cooks was already out for a visit to Pittsburgh today but now will miss at least three more games. The 31-year-old will be eligible to return Nov. 10 against Philadelphia.

Cooks developed an infection in his knee after a procedure following Dallas’ 20-15 win at the New York Giants on Sept. 26. The infection required a follow-up procedure.

Texans DE Horton set to play >> Houston defensive end Dylan Horton was activated from the reserve/non-football injured list, less than a year after he was diagnosed with late-stage Hodgkin lymphoma.

Horton, who returned to practice Wednesday, was diagnosed with the cancer of the lymph nodes on Dec. 1. The 24-year-old announced that he was in remission in March.

Coach DeMeco Ryans said it was “awesome” to have him back at practice this week and raved about his attitude.
