Spectacular images taken by locals of the most recent vivid northern lights show and Comet C/2023 A3 Tsuchinshan-atlas, aka ATLAS, are flooding social media.
Lancaster-based photographer Jodi Sylvester wandered up to New Hampshire on Oct. 10 hoping to capture the aurora borealis. She was rewarded with bright, gorgeous hues of pink, purple, and green, and was able to capture many beautiful images.
Leominster resident Erik Fraser travels all over the region and New England chasing celestial happenings. The talented photographer snapped a stunning image of ATLAS flying by Earth with a warm orange sky behind it from Prospect Hill in Harvard on Oct. 12
Dozens gathered at Sholan Farms in Leominster that evening and on following nights to try and catch a glimpse of the comet that only comes around every 80,000 years, including longtime city resident and library staff member Renée Wheeler on Oct. 16.
“Such a great camaraderie among everyone there, helping each other to spot the comet and figure out where to point our phones for a picture,” Wheeler observed. “In these divisive days, times like tonight make me feel very hopeful.”
