Dignity Health Woodland Memorial Hospital is celebrating International Doula Month by honoring the essential role doulas play in supporting expectant families. Throughout May, the hospital is highlighting its doula program and the positive impact continuous support can have on birth experiences and outcomes.
Doulas provide continuous emotional, physical, and informational support before, during, and after childbirth. At Woodland Memorial Hospital, they are an important part of the hospital’s commitment to patient-centered care.
“A strong doula program aligns with our mission to deliver compassionate, personalized care to expecting moms,” said Gena Bravo, President & CEO of Woodland Memorial Hospital. “It’s about creating a safe, empowering environment for families during one of life’s most profound moments.”
Silvia Guerrero, a dedicated doula at Woodland Memorial Hospital, shared her passion for the work.
“To me, a doula is someone who offers guidance and support from the beginning of labor to the very end,” Guerrero said. “Once you’ve had a doula, you don’t want to do it any other way. We strive to make every birth a safe and positive experience.”
Guerrero added, “I love being part of such a collaborative team. The nurses and doctors are incredibly supportive. It’s a very positive environment, and we create that together.”
Throughout May, Woodland Memorial Hospital is highlighting its doula program and the many benefits of doula support through its website and social media channels. Expectant parents are encouraged to learn more about how doula support can enhance their birthing journey.
