Monterey
Grace Posey, a beloved daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away on Friday, June 13, 2025, at the age of 92. Her family was with her during her final hours.
Grace was born on July 17, 1932, in Monterey, California, and grew up in the Oak Grove neighborhood alongside her three brothers—Mike, John, and Nick—and her parents, Mary and Mike Bomarito. Her parents were well-known in the community as the proprietors of Mike’s Seafood and Bay Fish Market on Fisherman’s Wharf, businesses they operated from the 1920s through the 1950s.
After graduating from Monterey High School, Grace married Jack Posey in 1954. The couple began their life together in their first home on Beldon Street, where they welcomed their two eldest sons, Stephen and David.
Following the passing of her father in 1963, Grace, Jack, and their boys moved back into her childhood home on Third Street to support her mother, Mary.
There, the family grew with the births of their younger sons, Michael and Christopher. It was on Third Street that Grace and Jack made a lasting, loving home and raised their four boys.
Grace was a devoted mother, deeply involved in every aspect of her children's lives—from hosting Boy Scout den meetings and attending sporting events to providing academic support and encouragement. Her dedication to nurturing young minds led her to a career in education.
In the mid-1970s, she began working as an instructional aide in Special Education with the Monterey Peninsula Unified School District, where she remained until her retirement.
Becoming a grandmother brought Grace great joy, and she was a loving and supportive presence in the lives of her grandchildren. She had a wonderful sense of humor that was appreciated by all who were lucky enough to know her.
A lifelong learner, Grace was an avid reader with a passion for novels and history. She continued her education well into her eighties by taking classes at Monterey Peninsula College in subjects such as art, photography, and Italian. Outside the classroom, she enjoyed playing piano, teaching herself the guitar, and caring for her beloved pets, especially cats and dogs.
Above all, Grace was devoted to her family. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Posey; her brothers, Mike, John, and Nick Bomarito; and her sons, Stephen and David Posey. She is survived by her sons, Michael (Valerie) and Christopher (Tonja); eight grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held in the chapel at Mission Mortuary & Memorial Park in Seaside, California, on Saturday, June 28th at 11 a.m.
