Fox “news” refusal to carry the January 6 BIPARTISAN panel hearings proves beyond a doubt it isn’t a real news station. Historians agree Jan. 6 was the most serious assault on democracy since the Civil War. How on earth could any legitimate news station refuse to carry an event that important? They don’t want to hear the results. Fox is licensed as an entertainment station, not a news station. They need to drop “news” from their name. They’re only misleading the public. That undermines democracy. Turn its hate-filled garbage off. Watch real news. You’ll be smarter for it.
Fifty years ago this month, Republicans got caught breaking into Democratic headquarters to steal campaign information. President Nixon was in on the plan, many of his inner circle went to prison, and Nixon resigned in disgrace to avoid impeachment. Now they’re at it again with the January 6 attack to overthrow our democracy. What’s with Republicans that they can’t win elections without cheating? They’ve always got some criminal plan going. If their policies actually helped the average person, not just the rich, they wouldn’t need to cheat. Vote accordingly.
We are learning that some of the bodies of the Uvalde victims were so mutilated that not even their parents could identify them, and that one was in fact decapitated. The Republicans who in the face of this evidence continue to stonewall gun reform and tell us that the destructive fire power of assault weapons is protected by the Second Amendment, these people are monstrous, and every bit as monstrous as the monster who pulled the trigger.
The House recently approved raising the minimum age requirement to purchase an assault rifle to 21. Will the Senate follow and pass this into law as the majority wants or will a few blue-dogs along with the Republicans stop this logical legislation? These same folks refuse to suspend gasoline taxes, cap insulin prices, or help the working class because it doesn’t suit their lobbyists needs or the radical right agenda.
State Sen. Eddie Melton, D-Gary is inviting Republican Gov. Eric Holcomb to Gary to participate in a collaborative effort on gun control. This is like inviting a fox to chair a meeting with chickens to discuss how to keep predator animals out of the hen house. Has Eddie forgotten that Eric just recently signed into law a permitless carry bill that even law enforcement and many mayors were against? Eddie, you should be calling a meeting of constituents to help get citizens registered and motivated to show up at the polls! Meetings are called to plan the next meeting. Voting has a better chance of bringing change. C’mon, Eddie!
After all of the hearings and interviews with Uvalde survivors, what do you think will happen with gun safety proposals? Absolutely nothing. Nada. Nil. The NRA blood money is already in the pockets of the do-nothing politicians. The gun nuts are already smirking and slapping each other on the back. And the slaughter will continue.
Now that an armed lunatic was arrested for a planned attack on Judge Kavanaugh, will Republican lawmakers address America’s growing epidemic of gun violence? Probably not, even though it was a conservative who was threatened. They will sweep it to the side as they did the Jan. 6th attack on the Capitol, a peaceful protest, legitimate political discourse, etc. Today Fox Opinionated News was having a tizzy over protestors at Kavanaugh’s house, even though no police were assaulted or windows smashed. Fox depicted the protest as more dangerous than the mob attack on the Capitol building.
Frighteningly, the level of selfishness is growing in our country. Put another way, too many of us are willing to believe a lie or follow a ‘wannabe’ autocrat even when the evidence to the contrary is staring us in the face. The controlling factor in our political activities used to be “Ask not what your country can do for you. Ask what you can do for your country.” Instead of focusing on efforts to remove divisions, promote bipartisanship and appreciate diversity, we have turned into ourselves and become fixed on our personal agendas. The country in general endorsed Roe v.Wade as settled law for almost 50 years. A small contingent of Supreme Court justices have decided the law must be changed. The Big Lie still has a large group of followers. The gun lobby pushes against background checks. These are personal agendas. Reliable polls tell us they are not serving the needs of the majority voting public. What happened to selflessness.
Every person that drives a car is required to have liability insurance and for good reason. It is high time that every person buying a gun provide proof of insurance before buying a gun and a minimum of $3 million liability per life lost due to that firearm. If you are waiting for any Republican to offer a REASONABLE or LOGICAL solution you are in for a long wait and I am sorry to say more funerals of innocent people will result. But, for heaven’s sake, do not under any circumstances suggest donations from the NRA should not be allowed. Greed and Power are the motivational motives behind absolutely everything Republicans do. Money and Power and the desire for more at any cost is our worlds biggest problem. All problems we face can be traced back to MONEY and POWER. Think about it.
Remember one thing when you are searching for baby formula. Canada and Mexico have plenty, but Trump’s tariffs have it stopped from entering the U.S. Another one of the twice impeached one term stable geniuses great moves.
