A Pontiac man has been charged with a felony for allegedly striking a young child with a bus while on the job for Hamtramck Public Schools, killing her.

Marvin Lee Flentroy, 64, faces a charge of reckless driving causing death. He was arraigned recently in Wayne County’s 31st District Court where a $10,000 personal bond was set, meaning no cash or surety was required to be posted for him to stay out of jail for now. He’s also prohibited from driving.

According to the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office, the crash happened on July 16, shortly after 3 p.m. when Flentroy allegedly struck a 3-year-old girl while she was crossing Burger Street. Flentroy, working for Auxilio Services — which transports Hamtramck Public School students — was turning onto Burger Street from MacKay Street when the child was hit by the bus. Medical personnel transported the child to a local hospital where she died from her injuries.

Flentroy’s next court appearance is scheduled for Oct. 24 for a probable cause conference. A preliminary exam is scheduled for a week later. He faces up to 15 years in prison if convicted.
