The Dodgers reached agreement on a contract with unsigned free agent Clayton Kershaw that will allow the future Hall of Famer to rejoin the team when he’s fully recovered from shoulder surgery performed in November. The 35-year-old left-hander isn’t expected to pitch again until after the All-Star break.

This will be Kershaw’s 17th big league season with the Dodgers.

The three-time National League Cy Young Award winner has a 210-92 career record with a 2.48 ERA and franchise-record 2,944 strikeouts.

Last season, Kershaw went 13-5 with a 2.46 ERA in 24 starts. He missed five weeks in July and August with a shoulder injury.

The Astros and eight-time All-Star 2B Jose Altuve agreed to a five-year, $125 million contract extension, ESPN reported. The 33-year-old former AL MVP was set to hit free agency after this season. Altuve hit .311 with 17 HRs and 51 RBIs in 90 games last season. He missed the first 43 games after breaking his thumb in the World Baseball Classsic.

Colleges: U.S. District Judge Clifton Corker kept in place for now the NCAA’s rules prohibiting name, image and likeness compensation from being used as a recruiting inducement, denying a request for a temporary restraining order by the states of Tennessee and Virginia.

WNBA: The Mercury acquired 2021 Finals MVP Kahleah Copper from the Sky for four draft picks, including the No. 3 choice this year. The Sky also will receive Michaela Onyenwere and Brianna Turner from the Mercury. Copper, 29, averaged 12 points, 3.6 rebounds and 1.4 assists during her seven seasons with the Sky.
