NEW PALTZ, N.Y. >> An Ulster County Sheriff’s Office advisory issued Thursday evening was intended to “alleviate any public worry” about an ongoing investigation on Plattekill Avenue in the village, an office spokesperson said Friday.

At 6:07 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 4, the Sheriff’s Office posted on Facebook that it was “conducting a police operation on Plattekill Avenue, indicating there was “no threat to public safety” at the time, but asked the public to “please avoid traveling through the area until further notice.”

At 7:50 p.m., the department thanked the public “for their understanding” in a subsequent post and said “all police activity has completed relative to our last post and the roadway is reopened for normal traffic. This was related to an active, open investigation and no further details will be released at this time.”

Asked about the announcements on Friday, Lt. Collin Reynolds said the activity was “relative to a search warrant being executed as part of an ongoing investigation.”

Reynolds said the office “asked people to avoid the area, as we temporarily had part of the roadway shut down while the warrant was executed. As the investigation is active and ongoing.”

On Friday, Reynolds said the Sheriff’s Office does not “have any further details to release at this time.”
