OROVILLE >> Following the busy-but-positive budget hearing in June, the first Butte County Board of Supervisors meeting of July is set to be brief, containing only one item pertaining to the Park and Thompson fires.
The board will meet to vote on a single consent agenda item that would, if approved, continue two Local Health Emergency Proclamations related to the wildfires that burned in Oroville and Chico last year as well as acres of county land.
This item comes before the board monthly as is required by state law in order to maintain the proclamations.
“The Park Fire destroyed 428 structures in the County, resulting in a large amount of debris which contains hazardous materials,” the consent agenda report said. “On August 7, 2024, the Health Officer expanded the local health emergency to include the Thompson Fire. The debris poses a substantial present and potential hazard to human health and the environment unless managed properly.”
There will be no regular agenda or public hearings during Tuesday’s meeting.
The Butte County Board of Supervisors generally meets at 9 a.m. on the second and fourth Tuesday of the month at its chambers located at 25 County Center Drive, Suite 205 in Oroville. Meetings are free and open to the public.
