Freedom basketball player Eve Monzon is the Bay Area News Group’s girls high school athlete of the week, and Liberty wrestler Jacob Livermore is the boys athlete of the week for Feb. 3-8.

In online voting that ended at 5 p.m. Wednesday, Monzon finished with 42% of the votes in the girls poll. Christopher basketball player Brooklyn Sax was second and Leland soccer player Allison Park was third.

In the boys poll, Livermore had 31.83% of the votes to finish just ahead of Berkeley soccer player Alfredo Munoz, who finished second with 31.58%. Valley Christian basketball player Teniola Bamisebi was third.

Led by Livermore, Liberty got pins in matches against Granada and De La Salle at the North Coast Section dual meet that helped the Lions win the NCS dual meet title for the first time since 2009. Livermore is currently the 35th-ranked wrestler in the state at 138 pounds.

Monzon, a senior, scored 21 points in a victory over Pittsburg as she helped the BVAL regular-season champs remain undefeated in league play at 9-0. She finished the week averaging 16.7 points per game on the season.
