Softball season in Macomb County has wrapped, and the area coaches have gathered to honor the best of the best in the area.

This year’s Player of the Year is Jenna Walters, a pitcher and infielder, who helped lead the Ford Falcons to their first state semifinal appearance since 2014. Walters, a University of Michigan-Dearborn commit, went 26-5 on the mound with 240 strikeouts to 20 walks with a 1.42 earned run average in 202 innings pitched. At the plate, she hit .378 with a .477 on-base percentage and .925 on-base plus slugging and seven extra base hits.

The Team of the Year and Coach of the Year are both Tars — the Anchor Bay softball team, headed by Mike Downey, earned the respective postseason awards by going 28-9 with a Macomb Area Conference Red championship, where they went 10-2. Though they lost in their district championship game, they beat rival Dakota three times this season, including in the district’s first round.
