Jake Retzlaff threw a 35-yard touchdown pass to Darius Lassiter with 10 seconds left and No. 13 BYU remained undefeated, outlasting Oklahoma State 38-35 on Friday night in Provo, Utah.

Retzlaff kept the drive alive with an 8-yard pass to Chase Roberts on fourth-and-7, and set up the deciding play with a 27-yard run up the middle. Lassiter eluded a pair of tacklers for the go-ahead score for the Cougars (7-0, 4-0 Big 12).

“It’s magical. It’s spiritual,” Retzlaff said. “How can you not be romantic about this game?”

Retzlaff threw for 218 yards and two TDs. He also ran for 81 yards and a score.

Lassiter had a career-high 129 yards on six catches, topping 100 receiving yards for the second time in three games. LJ Martin ran for a career-high 120 yards and two touchdowns.

They all helped BYU average 7.4 yards per play. The Cougars scored on all four second-half drives.

“Those plays don’t happen by accident,” Retzlaff said. “We were doing that stuff in our walk through this morning. We were running through those plays, and we ran almost all of the plays we run through in those situations and the guys did it really well.”

Oklahoma State (3-4, 0-4) lost its fourth straight game despite gaining 421 yards and averaging 6.4 yards per play.

Cowboys starting quarterback Garret Rangel left with a collarbone injury just before halftime.

Oklahoma State coach Mike Gundy didn’t give specifics on the injury but said Rangel will be out “a while” and that seventh-year senior Alan Bowman return to the starting position.

BYU trailed at halftime for just the second time this season before scoring on back-to-back third-quarter drives to take a 28-21 lead.

Ducks get it done on road: Jordan James ran for two scores on Oregon’s first two series, Dillon Gabriel threw for two more scores and the second-ranked Ducks beat Purdue 35-0 on Friday night for their first road shutout since 1992.

James had 10 carries for 50 yards and two scores in his fifth straight game with a score. Gabriel was 21 of 25 for 290 yards, two TDs and one interception, and Tez Johnson had seven catches for 66 yards and one TD as the Ducks (7-0, 4-0 Big Ten) remained undefeated.

Oregon took a 21-0 lead behind James’ TDs of 8 and 1 yards and Gabriel’s 12-yard TD pass to Johnson early in the second quarter.

The Boilermakers gave up an 8-yard TD pass from Gabriel to Noah Whittington, who pinned the ball to his helmet, and a 2-yard rushing score from Jay Harris in the fourth quarter.

Klubnik heats up for Clemson: Cade Klubnik threw for 308 yards and three TDs as No. 10 Clemson overcame a slow start to win its sixth straight with a 48-31 victory over Virginia on Saturday.

Tight end Olsen Patt-Henry had two TD catches and Phil Mafah ran for two short scores as the host Tigers (6-1) improved to 5-0 in the Atlantic Coast Conference, won for the 11th time in 12 games and defeated the Cavaliers (4-3, 2-2 ACC) for a seventh straight time.

Virginia led 10-3 early in the second quarter, cashing in after a Klubnik interception with Anthony Colandrea’s 8-yard scoring pass to tight end Dakota Twitty.

That’s when the Tigers got rolling, scoring 35 straight points to put things away. Mafah tied things with a 1-yard run, then put Clemson in front for good from three yards out.

Patt-Henry had an 11-yard scoring catch on Clemson’s first drive of the second half, then was wide open for a 40-yard TD run down the left sideline as the Tigers went for it on fourth-and-1 two drives later for a 38-10 lead.

Williams’ added a 36-yard TD run in the third quarter.
