The city of Eureka has been celebrating “Hearts by the Sea” all weekend — and while some events have come and gone, there are still plenty more things to do and ways to celebrate Valentine’s Day with loved ones.

Here’s a sweet idea: Stop by the new Dick Taylor Chocolate Factory at 333 First St. in Old Town Eureka to try out its 2023 Valentine’s Day release, Strawberries & Cream. This bar is created with dark chocolate from Belize layered with strawberry Peruvian white chocolate. They sell for $14. For more information, go to https://dicktaylorchocolate.com.

Want an equine adventure?: Take a horse-drawn carriage ride around Eureka’s historic district with the Old Town Carriage Company’s Percheron mares Pearl or Jessie and operator/owner Brendan Fearon. The excursions — which range from 25 minutes to an hour — begin in front of the Gazebo at First and F streets. To book a tour, visit https://www.oldtowncarriageco.com/.

Take a trip back in time: Stop by the Clarke Historical Museum at 240 E St. in Eureka to check out its new display in the Emmerson Room, which showcases various undergarments that Victorian women used to create their hourglass silhouettes. While at the museum, make sure to take a look at the other new exhibits, including “The Christmas Flood of 1964” in the Main Hall and “Birthing Traditions” and other displays in the museum’s Native American wing, Nealis Hall. Just a few miles away: For those who wish to travel a little beyond the city limits for a night out, there are many more things to do on Valentine’s Day within the region. Here are a few ideas:

• The Arcata Theatre Lounge, at 1036 G St. in Arcata, is showing the 1996 remake of the classic “Romeo and Juliet” starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Claire Danes. The cinematic experience begins at 7 p.m. with several short arthouse films, some animation and a little trivia. The main feature — directed by Baz Luhrmann — will play at 8 p.m. Costumes and dress-up are encouraged. Admission is $8. To purchase tickets in advance for the show (rated PG-13), visit https://www.arcatatheatre.com/calendar.

• Keep things fun and casual at The Sanctuary — at 1301 J St. in Arcata — during “Taco Tuesday” from 7 to 8 p.m. (Prep starts at 6 p.m.) This is a community potluck; everyone is asked to bring their favorite taco filling and the folks at The Sanctuary will provide homemade tortillas. There’s no charge to attend, though donations of $5 to $20 are suggested. For more information about The Sanctuary, go to https://www.sanctuaryarcata.org/.
