Highway 17 offramp closure set for Tuesday
Drivers on southbound Highway 17 near Scotts Valley will encounter a closure of the Granite Creek Road offramp from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Tuesday.
Drivers are urged to use the detour at the next southbound exit at Mount Hermon Road.
Message and directional signs will be in place to alert travelers.
Crews will be performing landscaping work and stencil crews will be replacing markings on the ramp. Please allow for extra time during your commute through the area.

Cabrillo College unveils mural on Monday
Cabrillo College on Wednesday announced the unveiling of a public art installation starting at 8 p.m. Monday on Cabrillo’s Aptos campus, 6500 Soquel Drive, Aptos.
Attendees will hear the creators of the mural — the student artists of the fall 2023 Art 91 Mural Class, under the direction of guest muralist Guillermo ‘Yermo’ Aranda, and their instructor, Danielle Torvik-Staffen — speak about their creative process and the cultural inspiration for the imagery.
The project is funded by the college’s Hispanic Serving Institution Task Force. It is intended to celebrate the college’s designation as an HSI, an institution that is open and welcoming to all, especially those who have been historically underrepresented and marginalized.

SJS alumni chapter announces scholarships
The local chapter of the SJSU Alumni Association offers scholarships to all Santa Cruz County high school graduating seniors and Cabrillo College transferring students who are planning to attend San Jose State.
The chapter offers renewable scholarships ranging from $500 to $2,000 to eligible graduates from Santa Cruz County public high schools and from Cabrillo College. The program offers a total of up to $20,000 annually to new and renewing outstanding and very deserving students from local schools.

Capitola Soroptimist Club to meet Tuesday
Soroptimist International of Capitola-by-the-Sea will hold its club meeting at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at United Way of Santa Cruz County, 4450 Capitola Road, Suite 106, Capitola.
The meeting is free and open to the public.
Club members will finalize the plan to celebrate the seven 2024 Live Your Dream winners at an awards ceremony in March and will review the possibility of a new “Big Goal” project.
Soroptimist International of Capitola-by-the-Sea is a global volunteer organization that provides women and girls with access to the education and training they need to achieve economic empowerment.

Antiques fair returns to downtown Sunday
The Original Downtown Santa Cruz Antiques Faire returns from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday on Lincoln Street between Pacific Avenue and Cedar Street.
The fair has been in operation since 1993 as a way to get people back to downtown Santa Cruz after the Loma Prieta earthquake in 1989.
More than 50 vendors will be in attendance, weather permitting. The event is normally held on the second Sunday of the month.

Knitting guild to meet Tuesday and Thursday
The Knitting Guild of Santa Cruz will meet at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday and 10 a.m. Thursday in the Fireside Room at St. Stephen’s Lutheran Church, 2500 Soquel Ave., Santa Cruz.
A collection of books donated by Shay Barsabe will be for sale. Another donor gifted the guild with bags of yarn that will be available for adoption. Bring your bags or boxes for your finds.

Holly Martinez, executive director of the California Commission on the Status of Women and Girls, will address the annual American Association of University Women’s Interbranch Council Luncheon from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Feb. 24 at Seascape Golf Club Monarch Room, 610 Clubhouse Drive, Aptos.
Martinez will discuss policy solutions focusing on women as pivotal forces in industry and essential contributors to the workforce.
