Council backs board on appeal of project

The town is poised to reject an appeal by a resident who challenged a neighbor’s construction project at 16 Place Moulin.

The project proposal calls for a new 1,400-square-foot deck and 200-square-foot stairwell. The neighbor at 18 Place Moulin objected to the size and scale and raised privacy concerns, according to a staff report by the town planning office.

The Design Review Board approved the project in October in a 2-1 vote, with two members absent. The neighbor’s appeal alleged that the approval was illegitimate because it lacked a majority of the full board. It also alleged that the board’s decision was inconsistent with various aspects of the municipal code.

The Town Council held a public hearing on the appeal on Wednesday. It directed the staff to prepare a resolution for the next meeting to deny the appeal and uphold the design board’s approval, said Samantha Bonifacio, a town planner.

The commission held a hearing on the proposal at its meeting on Wednesday.
