Sydney Boyd scored the decisive goal in the 75th minute, and the No. 2 seed UC Santa Cruz women’s soccer team beat No. 3 Mary Washington 3-2 in the Coast-To-Coast Conference Tournament semifinals in Santa Cruz on Friday.
It was the fifth goal of the season for Boyd, a junior midfielder out of Tamalpais High in Mill Valley.
UCSC (9-2-5 overall) faces No. 1 Christopher Newport (15-0-2) in the championship at UCSC’s Lower East Field on Sunday at 10 a.m. The winner earns an automatic berth to the NCAA Division III Tournament.
The unbeaten Captains trounced No. 4 Salisbury 4-0 in the early semifinal Friday.
Susanaitzel Juarez-Mancera, a sophomore midfielder out of Gonzales High in Salinas, gave the Banana Slugs the lead when she scored her first goal of the season in the 42nd minute. Emily De Los Santos, a senior defender out of Culver City High, scored her second goal of the year in the 53rd minute to put UCSC ahead 2-0.
Natalie Anderson scored in the 71st minute for the Eagles, and teammate Ellen Shine capped scoring with her tally in the 89th minute.
UCSC had three players given yellow cards for unsafe/unsportsmanlike play, and Mary Washington had one.
Goalie Ainsley Gove, a freshman out of Oak Park High in Newberry Park, made three saves in 90 minutes for the Banana Slugs. Adriana Thompson made three saves in 81 minutes for the Eagles.
Gove was named the C2C Conference’s Rookie of the Year on Wednesday. Through her first 10 games, she made 30 saves with a .857 save percentage and five goals allowed in three shutouts.
Boyd, Camille Anneet, a junior forward out of Malibu, and Kristi Truong, a junior defender out of Granite Bay, were all named first-team all-conference for the Banana Slugs.
UCSC’s Gove, De Los Santos, Chelyn Ackerman, a sophomore forward out of Colfax, and Tatiana Fernandez, a junior midfielder out of Long Beach, were named second-team all-conference.

Zach Ruhlman and Drew McWhinney staked the Captains to a 2-0 lead. UCSC’s Max Beldner scored his third goal of the season in the 89th minute.
Goalie Chris Jamrok made two saves for UCSC (6-2-9). Hayden Dewey also made two saves for Christopher Newport.
No. 2 Christopher Newport (6-6-5) faces No. 1 Mary Washington (16-1-2) in the championship on Sunday. The winner advances to the NCAA D-III Tournament.
UCSC’s Derek Uemura was named the C2C Scholar-Athlete of the Year on Wednesday.
The Banana Slugs’ Nico Herrera Land, a sophomore forward out of Novato, and Beldner, a senior defender out of San Francisco, were all named first-team all-conference.
UCSC’s Joaquin Greenberg, a junior forward out of Goleta, Nikolas Wheeler-Quintanilla, a sophomore midfielder out of Santa Monica, Soren Groessl, a sophomore midfielder out of Encinitas, and Jamrok, a junior goalie out of Hollister, were named second-team all-conference.
