Ohtani takes the mound Monday at Dodger Stadium in his first pitching appearance for the Dodgers. He last pitched for the Angels in 2023.
As Shohei Ohtani made his Dodgers pitching debut on Monday night, fans cheered every pitch as the two-way star hit 100 mph on the radar gun. His fastball averaged 99.1 mph.
But he threw 18 pitches before getting an out and gave up a run in the first inning, finishing with 28 pitches. He turned the game over to the bullpen, trailing the San Diego Padres 1-0 after the first inning.
Ohtani had delivered an MVP season and a World Series title for the Dodgers, but he hadn’t pitched in a game since August 2023 with the Angels.
