David Brown resigned as St. Mary’s High School boys basketball coach after a 13-year run in which he guided the Spartans to a 248-65 record and a pair of state championships. Prior to his time at St. Mary’s, Brown spent 11 years at Winthrop, where he compiled a 136-95 mark with a state title.
“I am grateful for the chance to coach at St. Mary’s the last 13 years,” Brown said in a statement released by the school. “I want to thank all my players, coaches and the community for all the support of our program. This has been a great ride and I’m proud to be going out on a high note.
“I knew this day would come eventually, because all great things come to an end. Thirteen years ago St. Mary’s was considered one of the best Division 4 programs in the state. I believe the program is now top 10 overall in the state and I wish the program nothing but great success going forward.”
