Hope Leyba’s early scoring streak remained intact, as did Colorado’s opening unbeaten streak.

The CU women’s soccer team continued its high-scoring assault in record-setting fashion Sunday, once again erupting offensively in an 8-0 victory against UNC Greensboro at Prentup Field.

On the heels of Thursday’s 7-1 win against Fordham, Sunday’s result gave the Buffs at least seven goals in consecutive games for the first time in program history. CU had scored at least four goals in a game just once in each of the past two seasons, yet the Buffs (3-0-1) have hit that mark in each game of their three-game win streak, collecting 19 goals total in those wins.

CU scored 31 goals in 22 games last year but has scored 20 through the first four games of the season. The eight goals against UNC Greensboro matched the highest-scoring game in team history (a win against St. Mary’s on Aug. 30, 2009), and CU also set team single-match records for assists (11) and points (27).

It was another big game for CU’s three forwards, with Leyba and Jace Holley scoring two goals apiece while Emerson Layne added a goal and two assists. Layne was one of three CU players — also Jordan Whiteaker and Caley Swierenga — who posted multiple assists.

Leyba kept her season-opening goal-scoring streak intact, opening the onslaught with a goal in the 13th minute. Leyba has scored at least once in each game and owns seven goals through the season’s first four games. Leyba increased her career total to 17 goals, tying Ashlie Mihalcin and Tatum Barton for ninth among CU’s all-time leaders.

Holley’s two goals gives her five on the season, surpassing the four she scored as a freshman in 22 games last year. Holley has collected five goals and three assists during CU’s three-game win streak, while Layne has recorded eight points in the past two games (three goals, two assists).

CU outshot UNC Greensboro 20-9, with a 13-2 edge in shots on goal. Buffs goalie Jordan Nytes had to make just two saves to post the 20th shutout of her CU career, becoming the fourth Colorado goalkeeper to reach that mark.

CU continues its season-opening, six-game homestand Thursday against New Mexico State (7 p.m., ESPN+).
