The Arizona Diamondbacks have banned a season-ticket holder from Chase Field for the rest of the season because of “multiple offenses” during games, including fan interference on a fly ball to the wall during Monday night’s game against the San Francisco Giants.

The D-backs were leading 3-2 in the eighth inning on Monday when San Francisco’s Christian Koss hit a long fly ball to left field. Arizona left fielder Tim Tawa tried to make a leaping grab, but the fan made the catch with his own glove, appearing to reach over the fence.

The umpires initially ruled that Koss was out, but the call was overturned after review and Koss was awarded second base.

The fan — who said his name is Dave McCaskill — was ejected after the incident. McCaskill went on Arizona Sports 98.7 FM on Tuesday, saying he’s been ejected three times and reviewed “9 or 10” times over the years.

“While our policy is to not publicly disclose information about our season ticket holders, the Arizona Diamondbacks are making this statement due to public speculations and multiple media inquiries regarding the fan interference incident during last night’s game,” a statement from the team said. “This particular fan has been involved in multiple offenses at Chase Field. Consequently, we have terminated his Advantage Member account and he is prohibited from returning to Chase Field for the remainder of 2025.

“This fan will have the opportunity to return to Chase Field in 2026 so long as he meets certain terms and abides by our Fan Code of Conduct.”

MELVIN’S OPTION PICKED UP BY GIANTS

The San Francisco Giants showed their confidence in manager Bob Melvin, exercising his contract option for the 2026 season.

San Francisco is 45-41 and in third place in the National League West.

The 63-year-old Melvin left the San Diego Padres to return home to the Bay Area and manage the Giants last year for the job he always dreamed of doing as a former catcher with the organization. This is his 22nd year as a major league manager.

“Having the chance to work alongside Bob every day, we’re really fortunate to have such an experienced leader and one of the most well-respected managers in baseball,” Giants President of Baseball Operations Buster Posey said.

Melvin, a three-time Manager of the Year who has won the award in both leagues, has a career regular-season record of 1,642-1,548 with eight postseason appearances while guiding Arizona, Seattle, Oakland, the Padres and the Giants.

The club went 80-82 in his first season last year.

“I’m grateful for the opportunity to continue leading this group,” Melvin said. “I believe in what we’re building here.”

Melvin replaced Gabe Kapler, who was fired with three days remaining in the 2023 season. The Giants haven’t made the playoffs nor had a winning record since finishing with a franchise-record 107 victories to edge the 106-win Dodgers for the NL West title in 2021.

ASTROS’ ALVAREZ HAS SETBACK

Houston Astros slugger Yordan Alvarez has experienced a setback in his recovery from a broken right hand and will see a specialist.

Astros general manager Dana Brown said Alvarez felt pain when he arrived Tuesday at the team’s spring training complex in Florida.

Alvarez has been sidelined for nearly two months. The injury was initially diagnosed as a muscle strain, but when Alvarez felt pain again while hitting in late May, imaging revealed a small fracture.

The 28-year-old outfielder, who has hit 31 homers or more in each of the past four seasons, had been eyeing a return as soon as this weekend at Dodger Stadium.
