Lauren Willard scored a golden goal in extra time to lift the Tam High girls soccer team to a 2-1 home win against Northgate in the North Coast Section Division I playoffs on Wednesday.

Hana Leach crossed the ball in to Willard, getting the assist, then Willard volleyed it home with her left foot to send No. 5 Tam (14-4-6) into the quarterfinals.

The Red-tailed Hawks will either travel to No. 4 Amador Valley or host No. 13 Vintage on Saturday.

Willard opened the scoring for Tam by drawing then scoring on a penalty kick. Northgate (8-4-5) equalized following a corner kick taken in second-half stoppage time.

Marissa Scanlan hit the crossbar with a header for Tam. Emily McMahon had a couple of important saves for the Red-tailed Hawks.

• Sixth-seeded Redwood (12-2-6) bowed out in the first round of the D-I playoffs following a 2-1 home loss to No. 11 Miramonte (11-6-1) on Wednesday. The Giants conceded in the first minute of the game but eventually tied the game on a penalty kick by Teagan McCormick in the 55th minute. Miramonte went ahead 2-1 in the 60th minute. Redwood had a handful of looks at the equalizer but were unable to tie the game late.

• San Rafael got first-half goals from Arlin Guzman and Ryder Higgins-Jones en route to a 3-0 win against No. 11 Healdsburg in the first round of the D-IV playoffs on Wednesday night. Guzman scored on a penalty kick to give the No. 6 Bulldogs (13-8-0) a 1-0 lead. Higgins-Jones scored twice before the half, both on assists from Jaela Brown, to make it 3-0. San Rafael awaits either No. 3 El Cerrito or No. 14 Washington in Saturday’s quarterfinals.

Boys soccer

Lucas Shin converted his penalty kick to lift Branson past Washington and into the NCS D-IV quarterfinals. Host Branson won the shootout 4-2 after a 0-0 draw through regulation and both overtimes on Wednesday.

Charley Lightfoot, Kai Mekonnen, and Shiloh Williams also made their spot kicks during the shootout for Branson. Goalie Nico Machotka-Farley came up with a pair of saves.

The No. 7 Bulls (8-8-4) will either travel to No. 2 Roseland University Prep or host No. 15 Kennedy on Saturday.

• Marin Catholic secured a 5-3 home win against Concord in the first round of the D-IV playoffs on Wednesday. MC (8-7-5) will either travel to face No. 4 San Rafael or host No. 13 Miramonte in Saturday’s quarterfinals.

• Ninth-seeded Redwood (8-3-5) bowed out in the first round of the D-I playoffs following a 4-2 home loss against No. 8 Acalanes (15-4-3) on Wednesday.

• Paolo Trilli and River Alfieri scored goals as No. 11 Marin Academy hit the road for a 2-0 victory against No. 6 Mt. Eden on Tuesday. Dominic Yu and River Jones had assists for the Wildcats (10-8-4), who hit the road again for a 7 p.m. Friday quarterfinal at No. 3 Pittsburg (12-2-3).
