Sophomore Elizabeth Penny stuffed the stat sheet with three goals, five assists, six steals, and four ejections drawn, and Soquel High’s girls water polo team started and finished strong in their 14-7 win over visiting Aptos in Santa Cruz Coast Athletic League play on Tuesday.

The Knights outscored the Mariners 4-1 in the first quarter and 5-1 in the fourth quarter.

Junior center defender Natasha Ackerstein scored five goals for the Knights, and first-year attacker Kiera Burke scored four goals. Attacker Grace Graessle had a goal and three assists, and utility Izzy Bridi-Milligan also scored.

Madi Knudsen scored four goals for the Mariners, and teammate Adelaide Friedley scored twice.

Mariners goalie Mary Suarez-Abraham made eight saves. Senior goalie Maddy Barwick made seven saves for the Knights.

Soquel (10-5, 3-0) hosts Harbor on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m.

At Harbor 14, San Lorenzo Valley 10 >> Senior captain Abigail Higgins had five goals, one assist, and four steals, and the Pirates held off the Cougars in the teams’ SCCAL match Tuesday.

Senior Zia Jaggar had four goals, one assist, and two steals for the Pirates. Senior captain Serena Manildi had two goals, three assists, two steals, and drew an ejection.

Sophomore Malalai Martin Etemadi scored twice, and classmate Morgan Lakey had a goal, three assists, and two steals.

Sophomore goalie Kallista Whitmore had 10 saves and an assist.

Harbor (6-6, 1-2) host Aptos on Thursday at 6:30 p.m.

Boys water polo

At Soquel 13, Aptos 4 >> Senior 2-meter player Cash Wolf had five goals, one assist, and two steals, and the Knights won their SCCAL match Tuesday.

Junior Stryder Stelck and sophomore Kai Queenan each had two goals and two assists for Soquel (11-6, 3-1), and sophomore Cane Mitchell also scored twice.

Peter Friedley, Kevin Johnston, and Taj Rios each had one goal for the Mariners.

Senior goalie Jacob Henshaw made 13 blocks for the Knights. Massimo Lopez made eight blocks for Aptos.

Soquel plays a nonleague match at Pacific Grove on Thursday at 5 p.m.

Girls flag football

St. Francis wins doubleheader >> The Sharks won a doubleheader at Gateway School on Tuesday.

The routed Pacific Collegiate 60-6 and Marina 82-15.

Evonna Jordan had four touchdown receptions and pulled two flags in the win over the Pumas. Maya Calfee had two touchdown receptions and rushed for a score for the Sharks. Liliana Whitmeyer rushed for touchdown and hauled in a scoring pass. Talia Moakler had five flag pulls

In Game 2, Calfee made three touchdown catches for 140 yards, and recorded two interceptions on defense against the Mariners. Jordan made three touchdown catches for 160 yards, and pulled two flags. Whitmeyer had two receiving touchdowns and a 30-yard rushing touchdown. Chanel Venter recorded a sack and six flag pulls.

St. Francis (14-2, 10-0) plays Los Gatos on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.

Girls volleyball

At Scotts Valley 3, Santa Cruz 0 >> Junior opposite Aila Papadopoulos had 12 kills, three aces and five blocks to lead the Falcons to a 25-23, 25-19, 27-25 sweep in SCCAL action Tuesday.

Senior outside hitter Ava Morrison had eight kills and three aces for the Falcons, and junior outside hitter Hayden Smith had six kills and nine digs. Sophomore setter Ava Dumesny served six aces, and junior middle blocker Makayla McDonnell made five blocks.

Scotts Valley (12-5, 3-3) hosts Soquel on Thursday at 6:30 p.m.

Girls tennis

Aptos 7, at Soquel 0 >> Kiana Safari, Aviana Andrews, Coral Collins, and Isabella Calderon won their singles matches in straight sets, and the Mariners earned a sweep in their SCCAL match Tuesday.

No. 1 doubles teammates Charlotte Long and Natalia Calderon played in the tightest match, but prevailed 7-6, 6-3. Gia Arista and Aracely Ritchie, and Julia Blevins and Neci Hoeptner also earned doubles wins in straight sets.

Aptos (5-3, 4-0) hosts Santa Cruz on Wednesday at 4 p.m.

At Scotts Valley 7, Harbor 0 >> The Falcons won all five matches that were contested in straight sets on Tuesday.

The short-handed Pirates forfeited at No. 4 singles and No.3 doubles.

Sofia Niklaus, Erin Szymanski, and Ava Keller earned singles wins. Riya Kuriakose and Maya Wexler, and Abbey Cox and Raquel Sullivan earned doubles wins.

Scotts Valley (4-2, 3-1) travels to SLV on Wednesday to complete the first half of league play and travels to Santa Cruz on Thursday. Both matches start at 4:00 pm.

Girls golf

At Scotts Valley 131, Harbor 197 >> Maisey Chard shot 27 and edged teammate Lauren Ohlsson (28) for medalist honors on the opening six holes in the Falcons’ SCCAL win at DeLaveaga Golf Course on Tuesday.

Chard birdied the par-3 third hole. Lizzie Goldfield (34) and Becca Ervine (42) also scored for the unbeaten Falcons (7-0).

Sadie Morey (46), Felicia Fernandez (48), Miah Murray (51), Jessica McMillan (52) scored for the Pirates.

At Aptos 130, Soquel 168 >> Medalist Emily Fassio shot 9-over-par 30 over five holes on the front nine at Seascape Golf Club, and the Mariners won their SCCAL match Tuesday.

Lemi Anastasopoulos (31), Lilly McGee (37), and Adeline Burgess (32) also scored for the Mariners (5-1).

Cassidy Perry (37), Joey Burgos (42), Leah Tuttman(41) and Haley Helgueros (41) scored for the Knights.

Aptos plays Scotts Valley at DeLaveaga Golf Course on Thursday.

Men’s soccer

West Valley 3, at Cabrillo 1 >> The Seahawks’ Hector Gonzalez evened the score with his tally in the 31st minute, but the Vikings tacked on two more goals in the first half and won the Coast Conference match Tuesday night.

The Seahawks finished with five shots on goal.

Cabrillo (4-3-2, 2-1-0) plays at De Anza (6-2-2, 2-0-1) in a crossover match in Cupertino on Friday at 4 p.m.

At Skyline 2, Cabrillo 0 >> The Seahawks gave up goals in the 75th and 83rd minutes in their Coast Conference North Division loss Tuesday.

Robyn Shin and Naidelin Manzo Arreaga scored for the Trojans (6-3-1, 1-1-0).
