Michael Derrick Newhoff, lovingly known to his family and friends as Mike, passed away peacefully on October 23, 2024. Born in San Francisco and raised in Ross, California, Mike’s life was deeply rooted in Marin County, where he found joy in the quiet beauty of Lake Lagunitas and treasured time spent with his friends, family, and his loyal dog, Rover.

Mike is survived by his brother, James Newhoff of Edmonds, WA; his cousins Nancy Ingram of Aptos, CA, and Bill Clune of Spreckels, CA; his many nieces and nephews, who treasured their time with him; and his dear friend, Ed Canobbio, who visited Mike almost daily over the last three years. Ed’s loyal companionship and unwavering support brought Mike comfort, laughter, and true friendship in his final years, brightening each day. He is preceded in death by his parents, Allen and Katherine Newhoff; his beloved sister-in-law, Antoinette Newhoff; and his dear friend, Carlos Rojas.

Mike was a natural storyteller whose laughter and warmth left a lasting impression on everyone he met. He was a familiar and friendly face in Marin, remembered fondly for his years at Corbett’s Hardware in Larkspur and The Tamalpais Marin, where his stories brought smiles to all. Earlier in his career, Mike worked as a salesman for Rath Meats and with Western Airlines, roles that allowed him to connect with people—a joy he carried throughout his life.

Mike had the gift of laughter, whether over a ‘mighty good’ plate of his famous tamale pie or a spirited game of Monopoly. He leaves behind a legacy of kindness, humor, and cherished memories. His friendship will be deeply missed by all who were fortunate enough to know him.
