The Santa Clara men’s basketball team’s hot start continued on Saturday as the Broncos, in their first game since winning by 19 points at Xavier on Monday, rolled to a 98-83 victory over Nevada at the Leavey Center.

The win improved Santa Clara’s record to 4-0 overall and 3-0 at home.

All four of the victories have been by double digits.

Christian Hammond (27 points) and Bukky Oboye (22 points) led the way for Santa Clara on Saturday. Brenton Knapper (13 points) and Elijah Mahi (10 points) also scored in double figures.

The Broncos shot 62% overall (38 of 61) and 48% from 3-point range (12 of 25).

They led 48-34 at halftime and didn’t slow down after the break while handing Nevada (3-1) its first loss.

Saint Mary’s 80, North Texas 49: Mikey Lewis had 23 points in Saint Mary’s 80-49 win against North Texas on Friday night.

Lewis shot 7 for 14 (3 for 6 from 3-point range) and 6 of 6 from the free-throw line for the Gaels (4-0). Paulius Murauskas scored 15 points and added 11 rebounds. Joshua Dent went 4 of 7 from the field to finish with 10 points, while adding seven assists.

Je’Shawn Stevenson finished with 16 points and two steals for the Mean Green (3-2). David Terrell Jr. added 12 points for North Texas.

Saint Mary’s took the lead for good with 17:13 remaining in the first half. The score was 47-17 at halftime, with Lewis racking up 18 points. Saint Mary’s extended its lead to 64-29 during the second half, fueled by an 11-0 scoring run.

WOMEN

Cal 69, Charlotte 44: Aliyahna Morris scored 17 points and Mjracle Sheppard added 16 as Cal advanced to the final of the Raising the B.A.R. Invitational on its home court in Berkeley with a rout of Charlotte on Saturday.

Morris was 5 of 10 and Sheppard 3 for 3 from beyond the 3-point arc as the Bears improved to 3-1 while dropping Charlotte to 2-3.

Taylor Barnes also scored in double figures for Cal, finishing with 13 points on 5-of-11 shooting.

Tied 22-22 at halftime, Cal outscored the visitors 24-13 in the third quarter and 23-9 in the fourth.

The Bears will play Harvard or Oakland in the final today.

Stanford 54, Washington State 46: The Cardinal (4-0) won their first road game of the season, shutting down the Cougars offense in Pullman on Friday.

Five-star freshman guard Hailee Swain led Stanford with 10 points and Nunu Agara added nine points and eight rebounds in the win.

Stanford moved to 76-0 all-time against Washington State (0-4), a former Pac-12 rival.

The Cardinal held the Cougars to just 16 field goals on 53 attempts (30.2%).

Santa Clara 76, Wyoming 45: The Broncos (3-1) used an 18-3 second quarter to build a 20-point halftime lead over Wyoming (1-3) and never looked back as they won on Friday night at the Leavey Center.

Ava Schmidt and Sophie Glancey led the way with 13 points each. Tyler Gildersleeve-Stiles (11 points, 10 rebounds) and Delainey Miller (10 points, 10 rebounds) both had double-doubles off the bench.

Saint Mary’s 51, UC Riverside 41: The Gaels improved to 4-0 with a road win Friday over UC Riverside (0-3) to take Saint Mary’s to its best start since 2015.

Addi Wedin led the Gaels with nine points while Edie Clark contributed eight points and six steals.

The Highlanders made just two of 22 attempts from 3-point range and the Gaels forced 23 turnovers.

Cal Baptist 69, San Jose State 55: The Spartans (0-2) scored the first eight points of the second half after entering halftime tied at 30, but host Cal Baptist (4-0) outscored them 39-17 the rest of the way on Friday.

Amira Brown had 12 points and 12 rebounds for the Spartans.
