A Van Nuys woman was arrested on Friday night after her 7-year-old daughter was found dead in the bathtub of their apartment, police said Saturday.
The mother was taken into custody without incident, Los Angeles Police Department Officer David Cuellar said.
Officers were called to the 6800 block of Sepulveda Boulevard, where they found the girl unresponsive in the bathtub. The girl was presumed to have been drowned or strangled, Cuellar said.
Further information, including the woman’s identity, was not available.
KTLA Channel 5 reported the girl lived at the apartment with a man and the woman, 38.
According to KTLA, the man reportedly found the girl’s lifeless body when he arrived home and began screaming for help. Police were called to the home, between Basset and Vanowen streets, at 5:40 p.m. Friday, an LAPD spokesperson told City News Service.
The girl was pronounced dead at the scene and the girl’s mother was arrested there, police said.
