CARMEL VALLEY >> The forward progress of the Piney Fire in Carmel Valley near Jamesburg has been stopped, as fire fighters continue to put out the flames that started Tuesday afternoon.

According to Cal Fire, the fire is currently holding at 220 acres with a 15% containment as of 2 p.m. Wednesday.

“We’re not out of the woods yet, but this is a positive step forward,” Cal Fire BEU updated on their Facebook page.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

Evacuation orders have been issued by the Monterey County Sheriff’s Office for the zones D074-B and D076-B, where residents should leave immediately as there is a threat to life and property. Evacuation warnings have been issued for D074-A, D076-A and D083, where those who need extra time or have animals should evacuate now, and others should be ready to leave if an order is issued.

There is a temporary evacuation point at Carmel Valley Library, 64 W. Carmel Valley Road.
