Despite this weekend’s cool down, June continues to average warmer and drier than normal. Through Saturday, the month’s average temperature was running about 6.5 degrees above normal. The warm conditions have been aided by abundant sunshine. June is averaging slightly brighter than normal, with 66% of possible sunshine. This trend is expected to continue much of this week, keeping the month on track to be the first sunnier than normal month of 2020. Following a record wet May, June has officially produced only 49% of its normal month-to-date rainfall. High pressure will shift eastward, allowing south winds to begin a warming trend Monday, which will peak mid-week when temperature readings reach or exceed 90 degrees. Gulf moisture will be blocked initially, resulting in generally clear skies.
