A man died late Thursday after he was struck by a tow truck near the Alum Rock Avenue exit on Highway 101 in San Jose, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The CHP received a call about a traffic collision between a Scion and a Tesla at 11:11 p.m. in the highway’s northbound lanes. Shortly after the initial crash, the male driver of the Scion left his vehicle and walked into the traffic lanes on the highway. He was struck by a tow truck.

CHP San Jose area Officer Ross Lee said the man exited his vehicle for unknown reasons.

The man was pronounced dead on the scene. His identity was not released publicly pending confirmation and notification of next of kin.

It was also unknown whether the tow truck that hit the man was being dispatched to the initial crash.
