APTOS >> Cabrillo College’s football team lost three fumbles in its season opener and suffered a 31-16 loss to Los Medanos at Carl Conelly Stadium on Saturday.

Freshman quarterback Jamari Vaughns, a Seaside High alum, completed 16 of 25 passes in his Seahawks debut. He rushed for an 11-yard score in the second quarter to narrow Cabrillo’s deficit to 10-7 and completed a 15-yard touchdown pass to Rio Cruz in the fourth quarter.

Martin Magana-Ramirez made a 32-yard field goal for the Seahawks’ final points.

The Seahawks finished with 433 yards on offense and gave up 421 yards.Cabrillo sophomore running back Peyton Hatten finished with 15 carries for a team-high 93 yards, and teammate Hunter Allan ran for 60 yards on 16 carries. Brandon George led the receiving corps with five catches for 105 yards.

Sophomore defensive back Kobe Hatten made a team-high eight tackles for the Seahawks, and teammate Ben Lucchesi made seven tackles and recorded an interception.

Mustangs quarterback Garrett Deatherage completed 18 of 31 passes for 243 yards and two touchdowns. He threw scoring strikes to Marques Singleton and Larenzo Mayfield. Singleton finished with nine catches for 133 yards.

LMC’s Jordan Barbadillo rushed for 97 yards and a touchdown on 11 carries, and Zeke Barber also rushed for a score.

Cabrillo (0-1) plays at De Anza (1-0) in Cupertino on Saturday at 1 p.m. The Mountain Lions beat Gavilan 49-14 in their opener.
